Trimming your business operations is essential to reduce cost, but are you really doing it the right way?

We have found that some of the strategies used to reduce spending, really are a sign of throwing in the towel rather than adapting to rapidly changing market demands.

Companies often reduce their spending on advertisement during tougher economic periods - when this actually is the time that you need to increase your marketing campaigns to promote your company and the services offered. If you are not seen - you probably do not exist!

We have seen many security enhancing projects being frozen or even canceled, however this is the time where you have “empty-handed” resources available to bring compliance issues under control or to get your business certified to add another competitive advantage.

Sadly enough, lay-offs are another dark side effect during tough economic times. But what are you waiting for? Do you know for sure that the services you previously made money on are the same services that will be needed when the upswing comes? If you cannot predict the future - be bold, create it the way you want it to be. While some fat-trimming may be appropriate in your organization, it is important not to forget to enhance the value of the only asset you have that does not depreciate. If you wonder what I am talking about - you may have other issues. Some of them may be issues that brought you to where you are today.

But if you realize that your employees are THE asset, then you also understand that they easily can adapt to new requirements and that they, for a small investment, can be retrained to deliver what your company needs.

It is commonly known, that employees that fear for losing their job and / or their financial situation, will not be as productive as those that feel their employer is trying to keep them on-board by retraining them for new opportunities. Loyalty works both ways and employees that feel valued will do whatever it takes to show their appreciation.

For those professionals that already have joined the long list of unemployed - the same goes for you. Prepare yourself for the next job. Brush up on your knowledge or learn a new skill - it will give you an energy boost and confidence that positions you stronger for your next job interview.
